Description/Blazon

SHIELD

Azure, a seax Argent hilt and pommel Or grip Gules and a mace saltirewise of the third.


CREST

From a wreath Or and Argent, a demi-ship's wheel superimposed by a mortar of the first supporting a seagull, wings elevated Proper.


MOTTO

On a scroll Argent edged and doubled Azure inscribed "PRO LEG PRO PATRIA CONAMUR" Gules.


SEAL

The coat of arms as blazoned in full color on a white disc enclosed by a dark blue border edged on the outside with a gold rope and inscribed in gold with the words "USCGC DEPENDABLE" above and "WMEC 626" below.

Symbolism

SHIELD

Red, white and blue are the colors traditionally used by the Coast Guard. The mace refers to the law enforcement mission and the authority behind it. The seax symbolizes the ship's armaments and systems ready to implement the law. Gold denotes excellence.


CREST

The ship's wheel denotes excellence in navigation. The mortar symbolizes the Dependable's mission and capabilities to control and counteract the importing of illegal substances and aliens. The seagull symbolizes coastal patrol duties and the field of activities where the Dependable operates.
